Starter Recipes

What could possibly be better, a tasty starter to get the taste buds tingling before the main course. A bit like a tralier before the main event at the cinema. Some of the trailers are as good as the feature films if not better.

In Italy where I originate from the midday meal always starts with pasta or soup. Rarely this may be changed to include fried fish or squid, but normally its pasta. Any meal I have done for guests has always included a starter of some kind. Cold starters are a great way of bying yourself some time in the kitchen as they can almost always be made in advance and kept refrigerated.

Go on give some of these tasty starter dishes a try you wont be dissapointed.

Zuppa Di Ceci (Chickpea Soup) Recipe
Pasta con Ceci is a kind of thick soup lending influences to my roots in rural Tuscany.

Tuscan Bean Soup (Zuppa Di Fagioli)
When we think of Italy we always think of sunshine, this is not always the case as in the north of the country the winters are probably even colder than they are in the UK. This hearty bean soup will be a comforting culinary heating system for those cold winter days.

Tandoori Chicken Recipe
This tandoori chicken recipe is an adaptation of a Madhur Jaffrey recipe which I think works really well.

Game Terrine
This is a Hugh Fearnley Whittingstall recipe from way back. If you live in the country like I do, game is readily available when its the hunting season. Many of the people who work on the land will be able to get you pheasants, partridges or rabbits for very little or free if you are lucky!

Special Chicken Liver Pate Recipe
My friend Rich tipped me off about this Mary Berry recipe for chicken liver pate. The lemon thyme really sets the dish apart from the usual pate's you get.
